The Minnesota Supreme Court is looking for a non-attorney to join the Minnesota State Board of Legal Certification. This 12-member board is responsible for approving and accrediting agencies that certify lawyers as specialists in various fields, such as family law and environmental law. The board also defines specialty areas, refines policies, and considers appeals from applicant agencies whose certification requests have been denied.

Board members meet about three times per year in St. Paul. Travel and lodging costs are reimbursed if needed. The position is open to Minnesota residents who are not lawyers but can offer a new perspective to the board’s work. Applicants should be comfortable reviewing written materials and participating in discussions.

To apply, interested individuals should write a brief letter describing their experience, background, community involvement, or any expertise relevant to the board’s deliberations. Letters should be sent to Christa Rutherford-Block, Clerk of Appellate Courts, either by email at mjcappellateclerkofcourt@courts.state.mn.us or by mail to 305 Minnesota Judicial Center, 25 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, St. Paul, MN 55155. Email applications are preferred.

Applications must be received by 4:30 pm on Friday, March 27, 2026.
