The Minnesota Supreme Court is inviting applications to fill several positions on its Advisory Committee on the Rules of Public Access to Records of the Judicial Branch. The committee advises the court by making recommendations about rules that govern public access to judicial records. The court encourages attorneys, judges, court staff, members of the public, media representatives, and other stakeholders interested in these rules to apply.

For 2026, the advisory committee has been tasked with two specific assignments. The first involves reviewing a proposal from the Minnesota State Bar Association that would allow attorneys licensed in Minnesota additional remote access to court records. This charge was given by an order dated October 17, 2025. The committee must submit its report and recommendations on this matter by June 30, 2026.

The second assignment concerns another proposal from the Minnesota State Bar Association that seeks to limit public access to gender-affirming court records. This charge was issued by an order dated December 11, 2025. The committee is expected to file its report and recommendations after completing the first assignment but no later than December 31, 2026.

To meet these deadlines, the advisory committee will convene at least once a month throughout 2026. The initial meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 12, 2026, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and will be held via Zoom.

Committee members are appointed by the Supreme Court for terms lasting up to three years. During their tenure, they may be asked to review additional issues as referred by the court.

Interested individuals should submit a letter of interest and a curriculum vitae addressed to Christa Rutherford-Block, Clerk of Appellate Courts, at the Minnesota Judicial Center in St. Paul or via email at mjcappellateclerkofcourt@courts.state.mn.us. Email submissions are preferred and must be received no later than 4:30 p.m. on January 30, 2026.
